The Columbia Basin Foundation announced the creation of the Deputy John Bernard Memorial Scholarship Fund. This fund was created by Deputy Bernard's widow, Tamara Bernard.

“We are very proud to be able to honor local hero Deputy Bernard by administering this scholarship to help local students,” stated Executive Director Donn Cook.

This scholarship will be available to a senior graduating from any Grant County high school, including Lake Roosevelt, beginning next scholarship season in January 2013, for the 2013-2014 academic year.

The applicant must be pursuing a degree in criminal justice or some field relating to law enforcement. A minimum 3.0 gpa is required along with a history of volunteerism and/or work experience.

The application will be posted on the Columbia Basin Foundation website at: http://www.columbiabasinfoundation.org under Scholarships, Regional.

Any individual, nonprofit or business can make tax deductible donations to this or any scholarship fund. Increasing the balance of a fund increases the amount available for distribution to the students as scholarships.
