DeSales defeats Raider baseball team at regional tournament
The Raiders took on the Fighting Irish of DeSales in a single-elimination game at the regional tournament in Walla Walla Saturday.
DeSales took advantage of the Raiders’ mistakes on the field to score six of their 11 runs to defeat the Raiders 11-2.
DeSales eventually took the regional championship.
At the plate, the Raiders did score and hit the ball, with Brady Black going two for four, with two runs batted in. Justus DeWinkler had three hits, and Keith Rosenbaum went two for three. Tyler Garvin and Tim Loch each scored a run.
With this success, the Raiders left six on base in scoring positions.
“We had other chances in the game,” Head Coach Brandon Byers said, “but just weren’t able to capitalize on the opportunities.”
The Raiders ended their season with an overall record, including the playoffs, of 20 wins and five losses.
“Though we are disappointed with the season ending,” Byers said, “looking back, it has been a great season in which we continued to do better than the previous year, which is always a good sign of the program growing.”
In fact, the Raiders were well represented in the Central Washington 2B North All-League Awards published last week.
Kramer Carlson received the Co-Most Valuable Player award with Miguel Charupe of Brewster, and for the second year in a row Carlson received the Catcher of the Year award. Making First Team All-League were: junior Brady Black, senior Carlson, and junior Justus DeWinkler.
Representing the Raiders on the Second Team All-League is senior Lee Williams. Seniors Dalton Boutain, Tyler Garvin, and Keith Rosenbaum received an honorable mention.
