The Raider girls’ squad won their first meet of the season last Tuesday at Mansfield, outscoring Entiat by 16 points the final team score of 144.

The Raider boys finished fifth with 35 points.

Leading the girls’ squad was Kim Barry with three first-place finishes. Two came in her long-distance races: the 800-meter run (2:47.7) and the 3200 (12:50.5). The third first-place finish for Barry came in the 400 in 65.8 seconds, beating second-place Heather Segle of Entiat by 5 seconds.

Katelynn Schilling racked up her first meet win in the shot put at Mansfield, throwing 30 feet 5.5 inches, beating second place Yvonne Kilgour of Bridgeport by 13 inches. Schilling also placed for the first time in the discus, finishing second with a throw of 83-9. The winner was Yumiko Sanford of Entiat with a throw of 93-4. For the first time this season, Schilling ran the 200 at Mansfield, finishing fourth in 31.6 seconds.

Mary Ann Matheson won the 1600 for the first time this season in 7:13.8, beating Lisa Hartvig of Oroville by 7 seconds.

The girls ran the 4X100 meter relay for the first time at Mansfield, placing third with the time of 62.5, just 0.3 seconds behind second-place Oroville.

On the boys’ side, Sean Waters contributed 14 points for the team with a second in the discus (112-7) and third in the shot (36-11).

Nick Gleason led the Raiders, scoring 18 points with a first-place finish in the 200 (26.26) and a second in the 100 with the time of 12.17 seconds.

Octavio Alejandre scored the other three points for the Raider boys with a seventh in the discus with a PR throw of 89-2. Alejandre also took eighth in the shot with a PR 33-2.5. Alejandre did not place in the javelin but did throw a 13-foot PR with his heave of 95-10.

The Raiders then travelled on Friday to Peshastin for the John Rieke Invitational where the Raider girls placed fourth with 128 points, beating the nearest 2B participant by 60.

Schilling rode her momentum from Tuesday by throwing for a 13-inch PR in the shot. Schilling’s throw of 32’ 11.5” vaults her back to second on the performance list for the Central Washington League at athletic.net behind Hunter Roberts of Riverside Christian with her 33’ 6.5” Schilling threw for another PR in the discus placing 8th with a throw of 88’ 6”. In the 200, Schilling finished first in her heat crossing the finish line a good 20-25 meters ahead of anyone else, unfortunately the electronic timer was having issues as her time of 22.43 seconds has her in first but is not recognized as a true mark by athletic.net performance lists. Cheyenne Kelly-Marconi continues to improve at the hurdles; she placed 7th in both hurdle races with PR times. In the 100 hurdles Marconi improved by a half a second with the time of 18.55 and in the 300 low hurdles she knocked off over a second to finish seventh with the time of 52.20. Marconi also placed in the long jump with the leap of 14 ft 5in taking home sixth place. The Raider men had a tougher time at Peshastin as Jesse Adkins and Sean Waters were the only ones to place. Jesse Adkins placed in both hurdle races with PR times, 3rd in the 110 hurdles with the time of 16.39 and in the 300 Intermediate Hurdles Adkins finished 4th with the time of 41.57 seconds. Sean Waters placed only in the discus where his throw of 116 ft 5 inches took home seventh. When asked about the performance of the Raiders over the last week, Head Coach Lori Adkins stated“Our athletes continued to improve their runs, throws and jumps. I was particularly impressed with how hard our athletes competed. They were definitely not afraid to leave it all on the track.”

Zachary Erickson is a long- distance runner who has made great strides this season with his times and competitiveness. An example is the 1600;, at West Valley over 6 weeks ago, Erickson ran 7 minutes 52 seconds to finish 78th. At Peshastin, Erickson ran his 1600 in 6:00.05 and finished 17th, an improvement of nearly 2 minutes.

The Raiders enter this last week of regular season meets confident in success. They travelled to Bridgeport last night where they took on a field containing almost the entire CWL along with Okanogan, Omak, and Tonasket. On Friday, the Raiders will travel to Liberty Bell for their Invite which will feature the CWL 2B along with Mansfield and Wilson Creek to wrap up the regular season. The meet will start at 4 p.m. for both track and field events.
