As Colorama approaches, the race company that wants to keep alive the Over the Dam Run is still in need of volunteers.

Volunteers help with race registration, hand out water to passing runners, staff the finish line and more.

Trifreaks, the same company that puts on the Grand Columbian Triathlon in September, took up the cause of the longtime local tradition that lets runners cross one of the most spectacular structures in North America, Grand Coulee Dam.

At the same time, they wanted to make the race a part of the community’s longest-running festival, Colorama, placing the finish line near the festivities at North Dam Park.

Owner Stefan Newbury said the company made no money on the race last year, but hopes to as the race rebuilds in popularity.

Newbury said that the race could use 15 volunteers and interested parties could do so by going to the firm’s website, and clicking on the appropriate spot.

Persons can also register to take part in the half-marathon and other categories in the race by accessing on the same website. Registration forms are also available at the Chamber of Commerce office in Grand Coulee.

Another added feature of the “Over the Dam Run” is a walk sponsored by the Rotary Club.

This year is sort of a celebration, a Rotary officer stated, since funding for the school has been received.

The Rotary Club has been specifically raising funds for the new school for the past two years.

Cost of the walk is $15. People can register for the walk online at, or get registration forms from Investment Services Northwest, Foisy & Kennedy, The Star Newspaper, and the Chamber of Commerce office

The T-shirts this year will read: “Walking the Dam, Building the School.” When you pay your registration fee of $15, you will receive a T-shirt.
