Raider tennis cancelled their match on Thursday after the sudden death of schoolmate Rickey Louie-Burris. The match will be made up at a later date.

“Some of our tennis kids were very close to Rickey and were unable to compete," Head Coach Steve Archer said.

Raider tennis had to move on, though, and first on the list as they hit the courts the next day against Pateros/Brewster was to win and continue to improve.

The boys again swept the field in singles play. Phoenix Shephard defeated Taylor Doucette 6-1 in both sets.

Hayden Rodriques hammered Adam Mac in two sets 6-1, 6-0. Isaac Looper won by forfeit.

In doubles action, the team of Nick Rice and Daniel Campobasso won in three sets over the duo of Jose Martinez/Jose Cruz 7-6(9-7), 6-1, 6-2.

Coach Archer was greatly impressed by their preformance. “They battled back in the first set to cause a tie-breaker, but dropped it, going all the way to 9-7,” Archer said. “Then they came back with a resolve and won decisively the next two sets."

In girls’ singles, no one recorded a victory.

Emily Williams played the closest singles match for the Raider girls; she lost to Emmalee Luft 3-6, 1-6.

In three doubles matches Friday, the girls struggled, with the closest match being the team of Hillary Carrier/Emily Williams losing to Maribel Mariscal/Monica Chabez 4-8.

The Raiders will continue to move forward this week. They travelled to Oroville last night and will travel again to Liberty Bell on Thursday for a match beginning at 4 p.m. at Liberty Bell High School.
