The Lady Raiders, coming off their three game sweep of the Fillies, got swept themselves by the Nannies of Pateros last week.

The team was hit hard by the sudden loss of Rickey Louie-Burris, Head Coach Tristan Daniels commented.

"It has been hard for a lot of the softball players to handle,” he said. “Some have never had a friend or classmate pass away. We think, what if we were there? It may not have happened.”

In the first game of the series, the Lady Raiders could not get anything going on the bases as they scored only one run at Pateros to the Nannies’ 16.

When the series came to Grand Coulee on Friday, the Raiders had to do without two of their consistent and leading players due to grades. The loss of them was further compounded by the departure of three promising freshmen for personal reasons leaving the Lady Raiders even more hamstrung.

The girls took to the diamond on Friday lacking vigor, Daniels noted.

"Friday we didn't have the pep in our step, or couldn't get any thing going at bat," he said.

The Lady Raiders did not score in the first game, losing 27-0.

In the second game, the Ladies did put together three runs, two of them in the third inning on a Trinity Sweat triple that drove in Harley Dice, followed by a Danielle Laramie single that scored Sweat.

In the end, the girls were focused elsewhere and the final score was 40-3.

Daniels did see good things from three freshmen who have had to take a larger role.

"Burgandy Day, Trinity Sweat, and Harley Dice have improved greatly from the first few weeks of practice,” he said. “The team in whole is a young team."

The Lady Raiders hope to get things back on track this week against Liberty Bell. The series started last night at Grand Coulee and finishes with the doubleheader at Twisp on Friday starting at 3 p.m.
