Baseball team struggles with Mountain Lions

Raider baseball took on the Mountain Lions of Liberty Bell last week in a three-game season series.

The first game was played at Greene Field on Tuesday where the Raiders won 1-0.

Kramer Carlson pitched a one hitter and was backed up by a stout defensive effort that gave up zero errors.

Carlson ensured his victory at the plate by driving in Justus DeWinkler for the only run of the game.

By the time the Raiders travelled to Twisp on Saturday, things had changed for LR. One player was placed on the disabled list and a few others had been declared academically ineligible, leaving the Raiders with little more than a starting lineup.

That starting lineup played a tight first game as the Mountain Lions won by a six-run seventh, 6-5. The Raider defense showed signs of wavering as they gave up four runs on errors in the seventh.

Those defensive woes carried into the second game. The Raiders gave up nine runs on errors on the way to a 10-0 loss.

At the plate, the Liberty Bell pitchers jammed Raider bats early and defensively prevented the Raiders from ever getting into the game at all.

Head Coach Brandon Byers was upset with the way the doubleheader played out for the Raiders but for the long run, he stated, "We are still looking good as it concerns a birth to districts."

The Raiders looked to rebound last night in Waterville and will close the series with the Shockers with a doubleheader at Greene Field on Friday, starting at 3 p.m.
