There’s going to be a little bit for everyone at Electric City’s second annual Earth Day this Saturday.

While the program is geared for kids, there’s a little bit of kid in all of us, so you better show up and have a little fun.

Probably one of the popular features of the day will be the Belgian horse team and wagon rides that will take off on Sunny Drive, kids and all.

The day’s activities begin at 11 a.m. and conclude around 2 p.m.

Always popular is the ride on a fire engine. Look for firemen and the big red truck in the area near city hall.

The event offers a lot of prizes.

A chalk drawing contest will get started near city hall and offers a $15 first prize and $10 prize for second and $5 for third. All will get “Coulee Bucks” that are spendable here in the Coulee area. Several age brackets are featured and the one for age 15 and up lets adults get in for a little action.

The event is spearheaded by city Councilmember Birdie Hensley and a host of others who have been meeting weekly for some time planning the event. It is supported by a $1,000 donation from the city’s hotel/motel tax account.

Grant County Health District will be on hand again to outline safety practices in helmets and car seats, both for young bike riders and their parents.

There’s a guessing contest at Gehrke Windmills for kids and adults.

Donna Goodman (the turtle lady) from Elmer City will bring a variety of turtles that will capture the attention of kids.

The Boy Scouts will collect old national flags that need to be properly destroyed.

The American Legion will have a garage sale at the Vets Center, a spot that is popular all summer long with garage sale enthusiasts.

If you enjoy an old time event, then come and watch a weaver spin the old spinning wheel.

Master gardeners plan a short program.

And a major event for “Earth Day” is a recycling element. Bring your old batteries, hearing aids, glasses and aluminum cans.

Events are scattered over areas on both sides of the highway.

There’s even food planned.

Bring the kids; it will be educational and fun. And everything is free.
