Ten Years Ago

To balance its budget, Elmer City will lay off one town employee. Elmer City Mayor Paul Tillman said at the Elmer City council meeting last Thursday that he will lay off assistant town clerk Lindy Starr. The savings will help make up $11,131 a state auditor said must be paid back to a bond redemption fund.

An A.E. Wright Elementary student took it upon herself to try and resurrect the issue of Coulee Dam’s swimming pool last week. Fourth grade student Sadie Miller went to the Coulee Dam Town Council meeting last Wednesday to ask if the town could repair its swimming pool in Cole Park.

The challenge for the Lake Roosevelt golfers became a little higher last week when the length of their golf matches doubled. The boys’ and girls’golf teams’ first’ 18 hole game, played on the newly expanded course at Banks Lake Golf and Country Club April 9, ended up being a successful one, despite a soggy course from all-day rain showers.

Middle school students of the month honored: 5th Grade – Brittany Belgarde, 6th Grade – Whitney Bowman, 7th Grade – Nick Heilman, 8th Grade – Willy Plotnikoff.

The Lady Raiders faced a grueling test last week when they played two softball games and a tournament in a span of five days. The Lady Raiders went 1-4, including two losses at home to Okanogan, a loss at Tonasket and losses to Manson and Sunnyside Christian and a win over Toppenish in the Wahukle tournament.

Twenty Years Ago

Jessica Hall was named Young Woman of the Year for the Grand Coulee Dam Area last Saturday. First Runner up was Amy Hart and second runner up was Candace Kaupie.

Celebrating 25 years of marriage are Richard and Carolyn Regruto. The couple was married April 15, 1967, in Ephrata and have lived in the Grand Coulee Area since 1968.

Les and Dot Ensley would like to announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter Patricia J. Orien to Michael J. Nelson.

Colorama Flashback – Starting Thursday, May 7, the GCD area will kick off its annual Colorama Weekend with the Colorama Rodeo once again having its family fun night.

Thirty Years Ago

Winners in the annual Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt included Sarah Cole, Craig Zlateff, Shannon Lippert and Aimee Kosloski.

At the Ridge Rider Junior Rodeo held Easter weekend, the following took top honors – Jody Grumbley of Spokane, Pee Wee All Around, ages 8 and under; Polly Peasley of Coulee Dam, Girls’All Around and Rusty McClellan of Manson, Boys’ All Around.

Young writers from Wright Elementary involved in the Young Writers’ Conference included Sara Smith, Elisa Weber, Kim Campbell, Jim Egbert, Aaron Frier, Jean Nelson, Michael Platt, Teresa Sanford, Holly Campbell, Jennifer Bunnell, Lori King, Becky Campbell, Eric Whitelaw and Lisa Siegwarth.

Winners in the Pinewood Derby Race from Cub Pack #24 included Jeff Talbot, Jason Salois, Mark Berry and Richard Steffens.

Colorama Flashback – Representing three of the four fire departments to take part in the Wild Cow Milking Contest at Colorama this year are Bob Steffens, Electric City, Bob Lippert, Coulee Dam and John Edmonson of Grand Coulee.

Forty Years Ago

The offices of Congressman Mike McCormack, 4th District today announced the awarding of a grant from the Federal Aviation Commission to the Grant County Port District #7 in the amount of $89,857. The purpose of this grant is to establish a new general aviation airport at Grand Coulee Dam near Electric City.

Two new little Rex-Delrio residents arrived at the Brewster Hospital last week. A girl, Diane Margaret, to Joe and Dorothy Nilles and a boy, Kyle Lindsay, to Delmar and Linda Sanford.

Colorama Flashback – Parade Chairman Bill Crespi reports that over 60 entries have signed up for the Colorama parade.
