Bradley dies in wreck

Fomer Okanogan County Clerk Jackie Bradley died Monday when the car she was driving rolled over about 11 miles east of Twisp on SR 20. The 73-year-old, who remained active in the county Democratic Party, was headed east in her 1997 Lincoln Continental when it left the roadway to the right and rolled upside down, a Washington State Patrol report states.

Spring cleanup

Spring cleanup is next week. Be sure to contact your respective city hall to see how the spring cleanup is scheduled in your town. The cleanup dates, April 21-28, fall over two Saturdays.

The cleanup is set each year by the Regional Board of Mayors.

In the fall, the mayors have scheduled two cleanup dates, Oct. 6-13 and Nov. 10-17.

Over the dam again

Last year’s walk across the dam during Colorama was such a success it will be offered again. The Rotary Club will offer the activity as a fund raiser again for the new school effort. The walk will take place Saturday morning, May 12. Registration booth will open Friday night and early Saturday.

Colorama season

With the annual Colorama celebration fast approaching, the chamber of commerce has carnival tickets at local outlets and fund-raising buttons will be out in local business this week.

Tickets are available at the chamber office, The Star, NCNB, H&H and the Credit Union.

Earth Day fun

Electric City’s second annual Earth Day celebration is Saturday, April 28. It will be a fun day for kids with fire engine rides, horse and wagon rides, chalk art contests and more. The celebration will center around city hall. More details will be in next week’s Star.

Testing firm picked

Strata, a professional services company from Spokane, was awarded a $9,704 contract last Tuesday night by Electric City, for construction material testing.

The contract is associated with the current arsenic treatment plant project, which started a week ago.

Support given

The school district has received letters of support for its building project from Okanogan County commissioners and Eastern Washington Council of Governments.

Group to review projects

The POWER group (Promoters of Wildlife and Environmental Resources) will hold its annual meeting Thursday, April 26, at the Senior Center.

The group plans to elect new officers and review its work on Banks Lake cleanup efforts, the fish pen project and the winter quail feeding activity.

The public is invited to attend and take part in the group’s projects.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m.

Flags wanted

It is now Isle of Flags dedication time. Contact Ben Alling at 633-0663 for more information about dedicating your deceased veteran’s flag. The deadline is May 16.

Visitor Center needs volunteers

The Mason Park Visitor Information Center (MPVIC) is gearing up for another summer season.Plans are being made to open the center on Memorial Day Weekend (May 26) and continue through Sept. 3rd.

Tentative hours of operation will be noon through 6 p.m. daily depending on the number of volunteers. This summer there will be no merchandise sold. Big Brother will not be watching this year. If no one comes in the door, go home. Just sign out in the log book, lock the door and return the key to Harvest Foods.

Volunteers will be necessary! If there is a poor response, the door will remain closed.

If you can afford a few hours on a lazy, hazy summer afternoon to finish that book, morning newspaper, quilt or sewing, call 633-1579 with your name, the hours and day you can contribute time...
