The Lady Raiders series against Brewster last week had the misfortune to be rained out not only at home on Tuesday, but also on Saturday at Brewster for the doubleheader.

For Lady Raider softball, that means this week will feature home games on Monday and Tuesday against Brewster and Waterville respectively, but also a second doubleheader on either Thursday or Friday at Brewster to go along with the regularly scheduled one on Saturday at Waterville.

When the Lady Raiders returned to action on Monday they suffered another huge top-of-the-first-inning scoring melee in which the Bears went through the entire batting order twice before the Lady Raiders could get the third out.

On the mound, Danielle Laramie struggled to get through two innings without much backup from the defense, who committed several errors allowing unearned runs to cross the plate.

Brewster pitching made short work of LR in the bottom of the first with the Lady Raiders going 1-2-3.

In the top of the second, the defense began to show improvement with the Lady Raiders closing the side quicker, with fewer errors and allowing only one run to score. Then in the bottom of the second the Lady Raiders’ bats connected for some much needed offense, scoring several runs before the Bears got the third out.

In the top of the third, the Lady Raiders sent out a new pitcher and the Bears did not connect for they were quickly up to pitch again.

The Lady Raiders improved as the game went on, but they still need to find a pitcher/catcher combo to slow down the other teams’ first innings and allow the Lady Raiders a chance to win.
