Tribal Recycling manager Joaquin Bustamante said last week that he hopes “Earth Day” on April 20, will attract some 1,200 visitors to the grassy area near the Trading Post at the Colville Indian Agency.

The event is catering to school children and is affording space for those who identify with “Mother Earth” to present areas of interest.

At a recent Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon, Bustamante invited local businesses to put up a booth to take part.

Schools on and near the reservation have been invited. Free hot dogs will help keep people at the site, Bustamante said.

Native dancers and drummers will add their energies and messages to the gathering and there will be a parade of horses with riders wearing traditional garb.

The entire outing will be covered by Northwest Indian News television, which broadcasts to Indian tribes across the country.

A raffle of an energy-efficient washer and dryer will be held during the event. Both items have been donated by Loepp Furniture in Grand Coulee.

The public is invited to the event.
