A large devastating fire destroyed Bird’s Recycling Service building early Sunday evening.
The Lake Roosevelt Raiders ventured into dangerous Okanogan County to play the young Oroville Hornets and escaped with a thrilling 66-65 win.
The Raider girls are now tied for first place in the Caribou Trail League after losing to the Okanogan Bulldogs 56-54. Shanee Haugen led the Raiders with 20 points.
Forty Years Ago
Gary Haag, son of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Haag, Electric City has enlisted in the Navy. He left Jan. 20, 1972, for San Diego, Calif ., where he will receive his boot camp training.
Four LRHS students chosen as Outstanding Teenagers of America are Gary Jackson, Roy Hood, Jeanie McKay and Sandra Olson.
Fifty Years Ago
The Green Hut Cafe, a landmark of the Grand Coulee Dam area on the west shore of the Columbia River below Grand Coulee Dam was gutted by fire Monday morning. Fire departments from Coulee Dam, Grand Coulee and Okanogan County Fire District answered the call and managed to contain the conflagration in about two hours.
Ray Rice of the Rex area is home during the semester break at Washington State University at Pullman.

A birthday party in honor of Vesta Peone was held at the Peone home in Electric City.
The Service Club of Grand Coulee High School received five new members which included June Copple, Ruth Ingalls, Joyce Flowers, Roy Bernd and Madge Bates.
