Thank you, one and all, for celebrating the season with 212 children this Christmas. You are appreciated because you filled out tags, cut out ornaments, purchased gifts, made generous cash donations or gave store discounts, shopped to fill wishes for ornaments on the trees, or wrapped endless gifts as the delivery date approached. We are so grateful that you were all part of the Trees of Sharing success story this year.
The “Trees” committee especially thanks the members of the United Methodist Church for their hospitality and financial support; the Lions Club and two Navigation 101 groups from Grand Coulee Dam Middle School and Lake Roosevelt High School for sponsoring entire families; and Dick Beery and Pat Holbert who faithfully picked up the gifts at ‘Tree’ locations. Proceeds from the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League yard sale and a donation from Thrivent last summer provided a huge boost to this year’s “Trees” project, as well.
A big thank you to each of the businesses that displayed the boxes for collecting children’s names: Coulee Medical Center, Safeway Pharmacy, Dr. Southam of Family Vision Care, Grant Mental Health, and the Coulee Dam Federal Credit Union. Thank you to Coulee Hardware, Safeway Pharmacy, North Cascades National Bank, Harvest Foods, Coulee Dam Federal Credit Union, and Bank of America for placing the trees in your businesses and helping with gift collection. We’re especially thankful for the new volunteers who helped purchase, wrap and deliver gifts to make sure every child’s wish was filled. When it was all said and done, Trees of Sharing elves — a team of 34 volunteers — delivered gifts to children in 80 local families.
Our special thanks go to Gwen at The Star newspaper for her coverage of the program this year. Together we carry on a community tradition that brings a bit of joy and a smile to many kids at Christmastime.
