Lake Roosevelt schools were swamped last Wednesday night as students and parents were introduced to teachers and staff in anticipation of Tuesday's school opening.

Students on the elementary side were able to visit their respective rooms and get acquainted with their teachers. Traditionally, elementary teachers spend extra time setting up and decorating their rooms for the beginning of school.

On the junior/senior high wing, students could meet teachers, collect their class schedules, pay their student body fees, and generally get acquainted with new personnel.

Visitors gathered in the cafeterias to sign up for after-school programs, try out instruments that they could rent or purchase so they could begin band, and eat free hot dogs, being served outside the building.

Students interested in band got to try out instruments and provided a peculiar serenade for those seated in the cafeteria.

Principals Lisa Lakin on the elementary side, and Mark Herndon on the junior/senior high side, both reported outstanding turnouts. It provided parents not acquainted with the building a chance to walk through and examine the features of the schools.
